Realtime solutions led a major UK based space planning and management exercise between 2001 and 2005. This project was funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) under the Good Management Practice for Higher Education Initiative, and involved the East Midlands Consortium Study Group. This comprises Nottingham Trent University, University of Nottingham and Loughborough University.
The Project addresses the issue of resource wastage within UK Universities and made recommendations on how space could be better managed and planned for. Outcomes and findings were reported to the Space Management Group.
Good practice relating to space management and planning were investigated and reported widely to the sector. In addition, the relationship between existing space standards and the poor utilisation of teaching space were investigated in detail. From this, Realtime Solutions developed their methodology for space planning. This practical aspect of methodology development continues to be at the heart of the Company's development.
Exercises completed as part of this project included the following:
Interviews with Key members of staff.
Gathering and analytical analysis of available data.
Gathering and translation of qualitative information.
Building of Institutional Space Models.
Representation and presentation at strategic meetings at both local and national level.
Reports completed as part of the project include:
Space Utilisation reports across all Universities.
Space Projection reports based on directed exercises.
Development of space reorganisation scenarios on individual exercises.
Recommendations made on good practice in Space planning and Management.
