Realtime Solutions have provided professional services to two leading Auckland-based Universities. In both cases this represented analysis of timetabling information with the aim of understanding what was possible with regards to student numbers within the current space. The following provides an outline.

Auckland University of Technology

In 2002, the University was facing a situation on one of its campuses of significant student growth. However it was uncertain as to the impact on its teaching resources. Realtime Solutions conducted a utilisation analysis on its timetable data. The analysis indicated the level of room use and enabled projections on the possibility and extent of increasing student numbers. More importantly perhaps, the reported allowed the University to understand how they were currently using their space.

Manukau Institute of Technology

Realtime Solutions loaded the institutional timetable data into SpaceMAP and generated a full utilisation survey of all teaching weeks at the Institute. In parallel, a utilisation survey was instigated and results compared with the timetable exercise. As there was a 20 percent variance, it was clear that there were serious issues between what data was being held centrally and what was actually happening. An understanding of this allowed MIT to develope a plan for the implementation of a centralised timetabling system.
