Australia

Realtime Solutions have provided professional services and software to a number of key Universities in Australia. These have included University of Technology Sydney, University of Western Sydney and recently, Charles Sturt Univerity, Albury.

All aspects of Realtime Solution's professional services have been deployed in this region. In addition to the space planning exercise currently ongoing at Charles Sturt University, recently a detailed timetable validation exercise was commissioned. The following provides some details.

Timetable Validation Exercise

Realtime Solutions has been involved in the development of the Space Plan for consolidating the University's two Albury campuses onto one campus at Thurgoona. The Space Plan was designed through the use of SpaceMAP, RTS's facilities planning software tool and based on projecting the space requirements for the various pedagogies associated with the teaching and learning activities of the University. Within the overall project, particular emphasis has been placed on Facilitated Collaborative Learning pedagogies which will be accommodated within the proposed Learning Hub.

As the Space Plan was being further refined in order to meet available capital funds, it became clear that a relatively high projected level of frequency and occupancy was required in order to accommodate all the proposed facilitated collaborative learning activities within the 'space envelope'. Should the University not be able to achieve these planned frequency and occupancy rates, the danger was that the proposed facility will not be sufficiently large enough to meet all the needs.

It was agreed to investigate that this space and curriculm delivery profile could be timetabled accordingly. In order to satisfy the concerns and issues, it was necessary to demonstrate that the planned facilities are able to support the delivery of the required pedagogies. A timetable was created that explored these issues with the overall objective of demonstrating that the high levels of utilisation were achievable. In order to achieve this, an institutional timetabling model was built up through the establishment of various institutional flexibility measures.
